The Nasdaq Composite Index also rose 0.34 percent to close at a record 6,454.28. Financial stocks spiked Tuesday as the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rallied to close at 2.171 percent. The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund exchange-traded fund gained 1.1 percent on Tuesday.
“As long as these two issues – North Korea and the hurricane – have receded as concerns, it gives investors a green light to focus on stronger fundamentals,” said David Joy, chief market strategist at Ameriprise Financial in Boston.
